Why you won’t get a real PR proposal until you’ve got goals, budget, and decision-makers in place.
Do you really want that proposal?
Lately, a lot of folks have been asking me for PR proposals, but they do not have the basics in place.
Meaning it is a waste of everybody’s time. Especially ours. Because we do not work off some sort of “rate card,” since we do not sell cinder blocks, plastic pens or dirt by the pound.
You only get a proposal if:
1) You have tangible goals to share.
These should ideally be both business goals and marketing/PR-level goals. We cannot pitch you if you have only vague aspirations for a mandate. If you need help setting targets and KPIs, we can have that chat.
2) You have a budget that you are willing to share.
Knowing the budget is critical. If you do not have a budget, you will probably suffer sticker shock when we tell you what it actually costs. If you need help establishing a budget, we would love to talk. But no budget, no proposal.
3) We get to talk to the people making the decision.
I don’t want your junior playing broken telephone with my ideas. Sorry. Find 30 minutes for a call. You will be spending a lot of dough if you work with us, so it is a good idea to chat senior-to-senior.
PR and marketing services are not a commodity. Stop trying to purchase them as though they are. It will serve you better.
