PR AND DIGITAL MARKETING FOR AGENTS OF CHANGE

CASE STUDY

Media Relations for a Crowdfunding Campaign

Mosaic Manufacturing
Mosaic Manufacturing, who graduated from famed startup accelerator FounderFuel, had a bold goal: democratize 3D printing without creating a 3D printer.
Mission
Knowing the central role earned media coverage plays in determining the success of crowdfunding campaigns, Mosaic contracted us to run the PR surrounding the Kickstarter effort for their flagship product “The Palette”. Our targets were big tech publications, mainstream media and outlets focused on 3D printing. Mosaic hoped to raise $75k over 30 days.
Tactics
After extensive research into which media were most likely to provide highest impact, we created a short list for pre launch demos. The roadshow took place in New York, Montreal and Toronto, with the biggest tech media outlets in the world.
Results
Due in part to significant media coverage at the start of the campaign Mosaic raised over $100k in under 24 hours, smashing its goal. In the end the campaign generated over $230k in funds – more than 3 times its objective.
We generated over 45 total media placements for Mosaic over the course of the campaign. These appeared in the world’s biggest tech outlets including Engadget, Gizmodo, Wired, PC Magazine, and Business Insider. TechCrunch called the product “Ingenious”. Mainstream and 3D printing outlets such as Reuters, 3Dprint.com and Discovery Channel ran feature pieces on the technology. We also delivered significant coverage in French, including in La Presse, Les Affaires, Journal de Montreal and on Canoe.

“Without the Proper Propaganda team our Kickstarter campaign would not have had the impact it did. Proper Propaganda got us covered by our top target editorials, and were an absolute pleasure to work with. They’re our first call when we need PR coverage, as they get the job done.”
